Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In only a decade or so, email marketing has grown from a niche platform requiring extensive coding experience to a ubiquitous tool used by millions.

When early online entrepreneurs reached out for a simple but effective email strategy, they were often overwhelmed. It was hard to bring in hundreds of tools, platforms, and software at once.

Now, marketing solutions are everywhere.

Moosend has emerged from the complicated field of marketing programs with a lot of attention. All platforms differ in their intended audience and accessible UI, but Moosend has targeted a general audience with its easy-to-use features and welcoming profile.

Today, we’re going to take an in depth Moosend review. We’ll explore what this hugely popular platform really has under the hood. Then we’ll measure whether you should invest or take a pass.

Read on to get an insider’s look at Moosend’s features, competitors, and summary.

What is Moosend?

Moosend is an internationally-recognized email marketing and automation platform. Originally founded by a pair of Greek IT wizards, the company now operates out of London. It started in 2012 but, like many email automation platforms, only found recognition in the last five years.

Moosend boasts a stellar roster of business partners. Ogilvy, isobar, Domino’s Pizza, and high fashion standards Vogue and Gucci have all enlisted Moosend’s support.

Though the company has an impressive client list, they take up only a fraction of a place among email marketing platform competition. So how have they distinguished themselves?

Moosend primarily serves small businesses and entrepreneurs. They’ve found success with this niche thanks to their lower-cost pricing plans and extensive list of automation workflow features.

It’s fair to say Moosend works best for users looking to boost subscribers and email sends fast. Their audience isn’t directed to large established users who want premium access to thousands of templates, third-party tools, and maximal integration. Moosend is a solid platform that will appeal to newcomers with a basic but satisfactory set of features.

Moosend Features Comprehensive Breakdown

The majority of our Moosend review will consist in a point by point breakdown of their major features. Below, we listed the eleven elements that make Moosend stand out from its rival platforms.

User-Friendly Dashboard

The first way that Moosend sets itself apart from other marketing and automation platforms is its dashboard. Boot up the application and users immediately are immersed in an intuitive, colorful, and easy to navigate homepage.

The dashboard displays all the most critical stats and analytics for a small business or growing entrepreneur. Some of the essential tools that users have at their fingertips are:

  • Opens and Links Clicked by date
  • Detailed list of open mailing lists organized by active subscribers
  • Breakdown of completed campaigns
  • Graph display of user’s audience split up by opened, not opened, and bounced emails
  • Upcoming broadcasts
  • Subscriber count variations

The detailed reports on email campaigns and lead generation aren’t the only metric on view. One click away from the dashboard and user’s will find all the campaign type options and automation settings needed to stay in control of a growing business.

Email Marketing Automation

Of course, marketing and automation are the tools that make these platforms what they are. Moosend has done a good job refining their email automation tech so that users can understand intuitively how they change readerships and open rates by manipulating settings.

Automate onboarding sequences or customize product offers in response to your leads.

Another stand-out feature catches customers if they add products to the cart but hold off purchasing. With cart abandonment metrics, these customers will trigger thank you or reminder emails.

Users can also release welcome emails when new subscriptions rise. A cool additional automation template goes out to your high-performing customers whenever they continue to support you with increased sales. The number of specialized templates will be more than enough for a majority of users.

The platform can differentiate between new leads in a variety of ways such as those ready to purchase products and those still on the fence. And they have automation flows that customize emails to suit the audience.

Moosend automates primarily with three techniques: with triggers, actions, or conditional steps. The platform sends off the appropriate email accordingly.

3rd-Party Integrations

Valuable automation platforms are partly defined by how wide their third-party integration extends. Even if a platform has a huge variety of automation tools and an excellent UI home page, the program will struggle if users can’t add external tools.

Moosend gives its users a moderate number of third-party integration tools. Overall there are 39 integrations included in its premium level pricing plan.

PieSync and Zapier have joined up with them recently, and that partnership gives users access to nearly 100 extra integrations. But you’ll have to subscribe to an additional service to reach these.

Some of Moosend’s most popular third-party links include:

  • WordPress
  • Salesforce
  • PrestaShop
  • WooCommerce
  • Magento
  • Convertful
  • OpenCart

A majority of business leaders may be satisfied with Moosend’s integration offerings. However, the 39 integrations falls on the low end when compared to competitors. Mailchimp, for example, offers users over 250 tools. Unless you don’t plan to expand to a more diverse email marketing campaign, alternative platforms might suit you better.

Real-Time Analytics

In certain ways, the main source of value that email marketing platforms deliver is data analytics. Users want a platform that gives them actionable insights in real time so that the business grows in line with its clientele.

Moosend offers a series of analytics which users are likely to find in competing platforms. The most common metrics that entrepreneurs are likely to need at their fingertips are:

  • Sent and unsubscribed reports
  • Clicked
  • Bounced
  • Activity in tracked locations
  • Complaints
  • Types of device emails viewed on
  • Type of email client viewed on
  • Opened and/or not opened
  • Browsers emails viewed on

Users will have more access to individual customer profiles, making it easy to track VIPs and supportive clients.

Many email automation platforms allow customers to free themselves from Excel and other apps which have hard-to-use analytics setups. Moosend offers a visual read-out for much of the metrics–it’s easier to read and, on top of that, encourages users to track your contacts’ trends more frequently.

We consider Moosend to offer plenty of data analysis to keep small businesses in touch with customer behavior history and individual client’s journeys. When client lists reach well into the thousands, Moosend’s offering begins to diminish.

Moosend Designer

We agree in our Moosend review that one of the company’s premier features its Designer tool. It deserves close attention to business leaders who don’t have coding experience but still have a clear idea of their email visual design.

If you want to get more in touch with the look of your email design, it’s hard to beat a drag and drop toolbox for easy accessibility and customizable detail.

We don’t find other marketing platforms that have as much creative room and personalized tools as Moosend. Creating landing pages, newsletters, and hundreds of forms is quite intuitive with this tool.

Along with the drag and drop tool, Moosend offers plenty of complimentary design components. For example, they give you a huge catalog of stock photos, Giphy access, and Facebook and Instagram elements just to name a few.

Segmentation Tools

One of the most effective strategies to boost the reach and click rate of an email marketing campaign is targeting an audience. Segmentation features are among the most critical automation tools to have in your toolkit.

Moosend has spent a lot of effort refining its segmentation tools. There are dozens of data metrics that users can utilize to personalize messages. Segmenting areas include:

  • Weather near customers
  • Customer location
  • Insights on how customers navigate your website
  • Updates on repeated or trending purchase preferences

Armed with personalized data, business owners are better equipped to personalize sending reminders, product updates, and other specialized emails.

Moosend is one of the leading marketing platforms right now that gives users extensive segmentation tools. For example, you can personalize messages if a product is about to sell out or if their shopping cart is full. Those are granular categories that will target customers’ pain points right away.

Moosend is efficient and delivers incredible ROI.

Way to go for Moosend.

Email Personalization Solutions

According to a survey conducted by McKinsey, nearly 80% of customers expect their retail products to be personalized for them. We live in a world where the platforms exist to offer each target messaging content directed just for them. Our Moosend review concluded that this marketing platform has some of the better personalization solutions on the market.

The way Moosend organizes its email personalization is to target clients at scale.

Scalable emails require a lot of customizable components. User purchasing behavior, their favorite products, preferences, and custom fields like name and location are all useful to narrow down clients to small groups.

Ideally, email marketing platforms would aim to send personalized messages to every client. Moosend doesn’t offer as many custom fields as pricier platforms, but there’s tons of room for customizable email included. Instead of sending campaigns with pre-built flows, it’s easy to draft one email that changes its fields when sent off to a particular buyer.

eCommerce Automation Tools

It won’t matter very much to your bottom line if your marketing platform sends personalized emails but doesn’t drive profit. Our Moosend review discovered the eCommerce tools which transform this platform into a moneymaker!

The goal that Moosend opens up for users is simple. You start by calculating analytics, tracking customers, and sending personalized emails. Then, Moosend’s suite of eCommerceautomation tools takes over. The AI will send several reminders to help drive revenue.

The reminders that form the building blocks for Moosend’s eCommerce engagement are:

  • Abandoned shopping cart reminders
  • Reminder emails
  • Product recommendations
  • Deliver product-centric emails with a full product summary

Armed with these basic but effective eCommerce tools, users open up other opportunities for sales. For example, it’s easier to cross-sell customers.

Targeting past purchases is essential to developing a loyal clientele. Market research has confirmed that repeated customers make up 61% of total revenue. Moosend’s eCommerce automation helps to ensure customers keep coming.

Template Gallery

The more design options your marketing platform offers, the better-suited business owners and entrepreneurs are to target a niche market.

Many blog and online businesses share overused and disengaging websites.

Consequently, audiences may turn away. Moosend does a great job offering users an expansive selection of templates that reach out for attention right away.

Just like Moosend’s simple drag and drop website design method, their newsletter design works just the same. But if personalized design isn’t your thing, their inventory of templates will do the job.

All the custom fields are easy to manipulate. Spruce up a home page with GIFs and videos. There’s also a sophisticated image editor that links up well with social media output.

Moosend doesn’t have the kind of customizable web page designer that code-based platforms have. Yet their templates will give users enough creative freedom to construct an eye-grabbing newsletter.

A/B Testing

One of the best ways to improve customer engagement and increase the accuracy of personalized newsletters is via A/B testing. Most automation platforms include a testing feature, but Moosend’s version is streamlined and it gets the job done the first time.

With the platform, you can customize more than just the email content. Crucial fields like subject line are also variable. You simply draft several newsletters, send them to specific pools of customers, then examine the response from the Moosend hub. There’s no need to work around code or enlist a professional to collect the testing data. You control it all.

Once the metrics (unique clicks or unique opens) show the winning emails, the platform integrates the data into the marketing program right away. Moosend offers a rudimentary A/B Testing tool, but it should suffice for a good portion of users. You’ll only have to keep in mind that it supports only two email variations and a maximum of 24 hour testing period.

Moosend Subscription Forms

Before you start to accumulate a loyal readership or customer base, you’ll need the technology to collect emails in the first place. That’s why there’s a lot of value in including subscription form outlines in an email marketing and automation platform.

In our Moosend review, we noticed that many competing services skimped on subscription marketing solutions. Either they assume that users already possess thousands of email addresses or they simply overlooked them.

At any rate, Moosend gives users a suite of templates. Employ several forms to maximize exposure and gather some valuable testing research in the meanwhile.

We found that some of Moosend’s most effective subscription forms were:

  • A full-page positioned center screen
  • Floating box which stays visible as the user scrolls
  • Floating bar on the top and bottom of the page
  • Modal pop-up when a visitor opens the homepage
  • Inline form situated within the content

You’ll likely find similar forms available on marketing platforms that do offer customizable forms. With Moosend however, there are more variable fields. Display subscription forms by country, city, operating system, type of device, page design, and cookies. Moosend goes the extra step to ensure that you increase lead generation. And they do it without adding complicated technical systems that can be a barrier to use.

Comparing Alternative Services

During our Moosend review, we’ve brought up competing services, if not by name then by making comparisons clearer. There are currently dozens of email marketing service providers that offer similar features to Moosend. We think three companies compete with this platform in a way that points out key differences.

MailChimp

Odds are, the first email marketing service that most people encounter first is MailChimp. It’s ubiquitous in educational institutions, large companies, and it’s a leading survey maker to boot.

In summary, MailChimp and Moosend offer similar basic features, while MailChimp’s analytics and premium offerings outperform Moosend on the whole.

Looking at each service’s free plan, MailChimp slightly beats Moosend because it includes more contact, website design, and behavioral targeting. It also has survey planning. On the free plan, Moosend offers many of the same features except it focuses more on automation and less on behavioral tracking.

When we move to the paid plan, MailChimp offers a lot of marginal tools that would help sophisticated marketing planners but aren’t essential for automation. Overall, MailChimp has more features than Moosend but they’re not features you need to improve automation on a budget.

ActiveCampaign

One of the more expensive email marketing platforms available today is ActiveCampaign. Its cheapest offering is almost the same as Moosend’s mid-range plan ($9 vs 8%) but it’s hard to judge if ActiveCampaign’s extra cost is worth it.

It’s true: ActiveCampaign includes some incredible features like machine learning and marketing automation that are built for big businesses with lots of data rather than entrepreneurs. If you’re looking for a high-range solution with automation packages for marketing, sales and CRM, and SMS marketing, ActiveCampaign is worth the charge.

However, Moosend gives users about 80% of the features–plus a free landing page creator and dozens of integrations–at no cost.

We give the nod to Moosend because it delivers plenty of features for its middle to entry-level audience. ActiveCampaign would be better for businesses taking the next step with their data and automation.

Systeme.io

While Moosend offers a full suite of features that target email marketing automation alone, where can you turn if you want to automate all your data at once? Systeme.io is the all-in-one solution you may be looking for. Essentially, you can run a whole business through it.

Systeme.io joins all your sales software into one platform. Join your website, email marketing, affiliate marketing, and landing page in the centralized hub. Moosend isn’t as comprehensive as Systeme.io, but it’s not quite built for the same audience.

Systeme.io also comes at a stunning price of $0 for the entry-level plan. Like Moosend’s free plan, you can find nearly every feature there without having to subscribe to paid plans.

Moosend and Systeme.io are very similar in their pricing and base features. The difference is Systeme.io’s much more inclusive platform. You’ll get more value with Systeme.io because you get a turn-key solution and a centralized hub for the same price as Moosend.

Pricing Plans

Moosend’s payment plans are simple to understand. Like most marketing platforms, you’ll get three price levels to choose from.

Free

You’ll get access to all the features reviewed above. The main difference between the free plan and paid ones is–you won’t get landing pages.

Landing pages are crucial to have if your business is diversified with lots of different product categories. If you’re an entrepreneur or small business person who’s just starting, then it may not be a big deal to leave a landing page behind at first.

The basic features that free users will enjoy are:

  • Unlimited emails
  • Email campaigns
  • Basic templates
  • AI product recommendations
  • Automation workflows
  • Analytics
  • Over 100 integrations
  • Up to 1,000 subscribers
  • Countdown timers

Pro

The pro plan starts at $8 per month for 2,000 subscribers. Then it scales up to $16 for 3,000 subs and $24 for 5,000. The subscribers count keeps scaling with a max of $608 for 200k subs.

The additional features not included in the free plan are Landing page creation, transactional email availability, and phone support. The pro plan is a good step up from the free plan with a reasonable mid-range cost. Go with the pro plan if you can, because landing page support is a great value and an essential feature for growing business owners.

Enterprise

The Enterprise plan is also called a Custom plan. If your subscribers total north of 200k, reach for this premium offering. This plan is clearly geared for large companies.

There is no posted price for the Enterprise plan. We recommend calling Moosend to start the subscription process. You won’t get access to any extra basic features, but more premium benefits are available like a custom IP address and custom reporting.

Conclusion: Should You Go Onboard With Moosend?

Statistics on the skyrocketing potential of email marketing strategies never fail to amaze. Litmus, measuring the average ROI for every 1$ spent on email marketing, came up with big results. The average return was $42. With a figure like this, it’s not very sound advice to avoid email marketing automation. But is Moosend the best choice?

For most growing businesses and entrepreneurs, we strongly recommend Moosend. The core features are comprehensive enough to work well for bigger businesses, too. Our Moosend review showed us how valuable its user-friendly profile and analytics can be. The page editor, lengthy list of integrations, and personalization tools demonstrate Moosend’s welcoming stance toward average users. Yet experienced marketers will find value too.

Moosend has developed an all-in-one platform that’s geared for most aspiring marketers without compromising on many features.
